This actually is a very common question among people because it is so strange. As air goes from high to low pressure in the northern hemisphere, it is directed to the right by the Coriolis force. In the southern hemisphere, air moving from high to low pressure is turned to the left by the Coriolis force. For those of you who don't know what the Coriolis force is
a force which, due to the Earth's rotation, deflects the motion of an object or a fluid moving over the surface of a rotating body such as a planet or star. So if you look at the picture to the left, the fluids in our toilets in the northern hemisphere turn clockwise, and the ones in the southern hemisphere go counter-clockwise because of the way they turn due to th e Coriolis force. Confusing...? A bit. Just read it through a couple of times.
